Abstract
Relaxation therapy using deep breathing techniques is a breathing method that involves the use of abdominal muscles with a slow, gentle, and regular rhythm, providing a sense of comfort, usually performed with closed eyes while breathing in. This therapy provides a distraction effect applied to mothers in labor during the first stage to help reduce the intensity of pain during the childbirth process (Sitepu et al., 2024). The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of mothers in labor regarding breath relaxation therapy and labor pain. This study uses a quantitative analytic method by examining the relationship between the two independent variables and the dependent variable, for which Spearman Rank statistical analysis is employed. The research sample consists of all pregnant women in their third trimester who are estimated to give birth between March and May 2025, totaling 34 mothers, using accidental sampling technique at PMB Heti Setia Ningsih Pontianak. The results of this study indicate that out of 34 respondents, 20 respondents (58.82%) have a sufficient level of knowledge. There are 21 respondents (51.76%) who have a poor attitude. The results of the Spearman's Rank test showed a significance calculation of Sig. 2 (Tailed) = 0.009 < (α 0.05), indicating a relationship between maternal knowledge about childbirth and breathing therapy in reducing labor pain, while Sig. 2 (Tailed) = 0.667 > (α 0.05) indicates no relationship between maternal attitudes towards relaxation breathing therapy in reducing labor pain.
